Regular and irregular verbs
An English verb can be regular or irregular.
- Regular verbs form their past and past participle forms by adding –ed. Examples:
INFINITIVE - SIMPLE PAST - PAST PARTICIPLE

Dance – danced – danced
Paint – painted – painted
Work – worked – worked
- Irregular verbs form their past and past participle forms in different ways. There are mainly three types of irregular verbs.
1) Verbs in which all the three forms are the same (e.g. put – put – put)
2) Verbs in which two of the three forms are the same (e.g. sit – sat – sat)
3) Verbs in which all three forms are different (e.g. drink – drank – drunk)
* Some verbs can be both irregular and regular. Examples:

** When you talk about actions you do regularly (every day, every week, every morning...), you use PRESENT SIMPLE (not past simple). Examples:
- Every morning I wake up at half past seven.
- Every day I have a shower.
- Every week I tidy up my room.
When you talk about finished actions, you use simple past. In other words, if you see certain past time expressions, such as 'this morning', 'yesterday' or 'last year,' you need to use simple past. Examples:
- This morning I woke up at half past seven.
- Yesterday I had a shower.
- Last Monday I tidied up my room.
